Trade remains at the core of Dubai's economy, with the city operating two of the world's largest ports and a busy international air cargo hub today. On this field trip, we discuss the Trade, Economy and Growth of Dubai from Pearling to Oil. ,This tour starts in the Al Shindagha neighborhood and ends in the Spice Souk.

Content highlights are:

  • Walk through the Merkaz Turath heritage houses to understand what items were being created by hand by people in Old Dubai to trade

  • Walk creekside to the Abra for a 20-minute Abra ride across Dubai Creek to the Spice and Gold Souk 

  • Understand kinds of spices, such as Saffron from Iran and Vanilla from Madagascar being traded

  • Visit the Gold Souk, understanding how Dubai is a global center for gold trade

  • We can focus more on silk route and spice trade, bring in traders from Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and Iran into the conversation with students as they visit their shops. 

 

It is a 2.5-hour tour. Students are given a Certificate of Participation at the end of the tour. Suggested time slot is 8:45AM to 11:15AM. 

 

No meals are included in the tour. The students have a short snack break in between where they can have their snack box. Students arrive and depart by schools buses organized by the school. 


  • Tour Cost: AED 50 per student. All teachers and assistant teachers are complimentary.
